OUR STORY

Historic, authentic and artisan, this boutique vintage bakery with its traditional wood fired Scotch oven was built in the 1890’s by Charles and Stephenson Turner. The brothers delivered their hand-made bread by horse and cart as far as Heidelberg. The bakery has been lovingly restored after being closed in the 1940’s and left vacant for many years.  In honor of its inspiring, hardworking founders we bake all our artisan breads, pies & pastries on the premises with love and respect of the heritage that surrounds us.  We maintain that Charlie’s spirit still watches over our bakers giving them gentle nudges on how to make the best authentic sourdough in Victoria. Our signature authentic hand-made sourdough is made with a mother culture of wild natural yeast that is over 100 years old. This mother culture is fed and cared for daily.  Turners sourdough not only tastes amazing - it’s healthy too, due to its long natural fermentation.
